He has published extensively on early modern French literature, including contes de f\u00e9es, and Francophone adaptations of oral traditions. Among his current projects is a study of tricksters in literary and cinematic versions of folk narratives in the Atlantic Francophone world.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-8a6c83f\" data-id=\"8a6c83f\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0e0c346 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0e0c346\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h6 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Abstract: <\/h6>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fc0186f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fc0186f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As by-products of colonialism, the many collections of indigenous folklore translated into European languages are problematic for (at least) two reasons: first, because they purport to represent in writing texts performed orally, which also involves translation across languages and cultures; and second, because their editors often extract the oral performances from their local contexts and substitute themselves for the original performers. Still, these collections and the texts they present are significant records of traditions that in many instances have waned or disappeared, often as a consequence of colonialism.
