ISFNR Membership

Dear Colleagues,

Since our meeting in Miami (2016), it has been our pleasure to welcome thirty-two new members to the ISFNR, making our strength to 250 members. Our new colleagues include folk-narrative specialists from Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Germany/New Zealand, Iceland, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Their involvement in our organization strengthens not only the ISFNR but also the disciplines of folkloristics and narrative studies. As per our statutes, the official announcement of new members will be made at the next ISFNR General Assembly in 2020.

ISFNR Board has recently simplified the application process, which no longer requires nominations. In addition to filling out and sending the application form, applicants need to send a short biography and a CV listing any publications, theses, and/or conference presentations in folk-narrative research to the Chairperson of the Membership Committee (terry@hi.is); the Society's President (Sadhana Naithani at isfnrpresident@gmail.com); and the Secretary (Nidhi Mathur at nidhimathur42@yahoo.com): see http://www.isfnr.org/becoming-a-member.php. It is also helpful to send two recent abstracts that are representative of the applicant's scholarship. (Any offprints, however, should be sent to our President who is building an ISFNR library/archive.) If you are interested in joining the ISFNR you can submit materials at any point during the year, but the Board considers applications twice a year (June and December).

Please contact the Chairperson of the Membership Committee (terry@hi.is) if you have any questions regarding membership.
